Sophie, the daughter of a duke and fiancée to the second prince, Lorenz, is told she has only one year to live due to a curse placed upon her. With her time running out, she decides to live as she pleases. She steps back from social obligations and studies, which were never her forte. She abandons restrictive dresses, cuts her hair, eats what she wants, and does everything she has ever wished to do.
